Touring Car Masters

March 12, 2019 By ARDC 1 Comment

Since its inception in 2007, the Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters – just ‘TCM’ to fans and competitors – has rapidly grown to become one of Australia’s premier racing categories.

Evolving from Historic Group N racing through to Biante Historic Touring Cars, the series emerged as the Touring Car Masters for its inaugural season in 2007. Setting itself apart from traditional Historic racing, the Touring Car Masters pioneered a new class of racing by introducing innovative technical regulations aiming to improve safety, reliability, cut running costs and provide an exciting and entertaining race package while maintaining the visual appeal of its period race cars.

The Touring Car Masters immediately struck a winning formula, with its mix of classic hero cars and modern improvements, such as disc brakes, dry-sumped engines and radial tyres, producing intense, dynamic racing right from the outset. Since then, the popular retro series has continued to go from strength-to-strength, lifting the class to become a successful, highly-competitive, affordable and commercially-viable category.

Though many think of it as a historic category, TCM is just as much of a ‘tribute’ to the classic era while allowing it to be viable in today’s commercial and competitive environment.

Showcasing a selection of immaculately prepared touring cars of the pre-1981 era, the Touring Car Masters boasts some of the sport’s most iconic muscle cars from Falcon GT’s, BOSS Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros, Chrysler Chargers and Holden Monaros to the giant-killing Holden Toranas and nimble Porsche 911 RS’s. Pontiacs, Mercuries, Ford Capris and more make a variety-packed field.

The Touring Car Masters series is structured across three classes at each round:
ProMASTERS – For the professional drivers
ProAM – For part-timers or drivers doing it as much for fun as they are success
ProSPORTS – allows entrants to cross-enter in the same car, enabling two (or more) drivers to score points for the vehicle and still compete for the class championship.

Heritage Touring Cars – Group C and A

March 11, 2019 By ARDC Leave a Comment

Heritage Touring Cars are the Legends of Bathurst – mighty Group C & Group A Australian touring cars driven by icons such as Brock, Moffat, Richards and countless others to legendary status. With Heritage Touring Cars, the legends live again, unleashed on Australian racetracks with all the fire and fury of the golden age of motor sport.

The Group C and Group A cars racing with Heritage Touring Cars are the original race cars that competed between 1973 and ‘92, in their period-correct livery and specification. These are the machines that, at the hands of Australian icons, wrote the greatest stories that the sport has produced, when it was possible for a privateer to go David and Goliath against the factories and incredible diversity of machinery produced unparalleled racing.

Heritage Touring Cars formed out of passion for these cars and the history they are part of, to ensure that they continue to race and keep the fever alive in their fans.

Classic Sports Cars (Group S)

Group S

Based on mildly modified production sports cars from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, Group S is one of the fastest growing historic motorsport categories with spectacular and diverse grids.  Manufacturers include Austin Healey, Porsche, Lotus, Ferrari, MG, Datsun, Alfa Romeo, Shelby, Triumph, Chevrolet, Renault, De Tomaso and more.  Split into three sub categories based on year of manufacture, there are plenty of ‘races-within-the-race’ throughout the extremely competitive and often full fields.

A company synonymous with racing, not to mention Steve McQueen, is Gulf Oil.  In 2019 Gulf Oil Australia is once again supporting the category.  The iconic Gulf livery was a regular on the tracks of Europe in the in 60’s and 70’s, everything from Porsche 917’s to Ford GT40’s… and now Gulf Oil is in Australia and on Australian race tracks with Group S.

National Sports Sedans

National Sports Sedans

THE NATIONAL SPORTS SEDAN SERIES is arguably the most dynamic and exciting motor racing category in the country. The noise and the serious horsepower from the mid mounted engines of these ‘winged and wild’ racers is awe inspiring. Built and raced by a dedicated group of devotees chasing the ultimate in power to weight performance, they share a unique place in Australian motor racing heritage.

Sports sedans are the most modified full bodied cars in Australian motor sport. Typically they commence build using a steel tube ”space frame” chassis, add mechanical components, composite body panels which can resemble the family sedan or transform a sports saloon into something more exotic with the addition of wheel arch flares to accommodate the wide slick rubber, plus front spoilers and a large rear wing to generate downforce.

The most successful cars in recent years have sourced power from a 700+ horsepower 6000cc V8 engines and transmit that power through a 5 or 6 speed transaxle rear end. The result is the fastest cars with a roof, and in many instances these cars are knocking on the door of recording fastest outright track laps at circuits nationwide!
