OFFICIAL RELEASE 28/07/21: The Australian Racing Drivers’ Club (ARDC), operators of Sydney Motorsport Park and promoters of Sydney MasterBlast Ft. Muscle Car Masters™ has decided to cancel the 2021 running of the annual Fathers’ Day event in the interest of public health and safety.
Sydney Motorsport Park will currently be closed to the public until August 28 in line with NSW Health orders, and even if the Greater Sydney area emerged from lockdown at this time, there are too many factors which would affect the proper running of such a large-scale event on September 4-5.
The ARDC also feels that this is not the time to hold an event which typically sees hundreds of competitor entries and over 8000 spectators; particularly with the planned addition of Powercruise, Tuned and live entertainment on the Saturday evening. Travel restrictions, lack of track time for competitors in the lead up to the event, and financial considerations for all involved are also a factor in the decision.
“The ARDC has been holding motorsport events for nearly 70 years, and the health and safety of our competitors, officials, spectators and staff has always come first,” said ARDC CEO Glenn Matthews.
“In a global pandemic, particularly with the emergence of this new Delta strain of Covid-19, it is simply not possible nor responsible to go ahead with an event of this scale, even if we are out of lockdown by Fathers’ Day.
“We will cancel the 2021 event and look to come back in 2022 with an even bigger, better and fully-lit Sydney Masterblast featuring Muscle Car Masters – in the way the event is meant to be run and held.”
The ARDC would like to thank its supporters and in particular the Sydney MasterBlast competitors, volunteers, event sponsors, and spectators for the ongoing support and understanding.
Stay safe, and we hope to see you trackside soon…
